PLACING AN ORDER
You must be 21 years of age or older to place an order for any item containing alcohol from Wide World of Wines.
It is unlawful to sell or supply alcohol to anyone under 21 years of age in the United States. By placing an order you confirm that you are at least 21 years of age. We may ask for identification when you come to pick up your order, or a copy of photographic identification indicating proof of age via e-mail or fax before shipping out any packages containing alcohol. Any identification that is expired or false will not be accepted. We retain the right to refuse services or sales to anyone whom we believe in good discretion to be acting in an unlawful manner. It is unlawful to provide false identification or to assume the identity of another person.
All attendees of any event associated with Wide World of Wines must be 21 years or older. You may be asked to show photographic identification indicating proof of age. If you are unable to do so, or refuse, you may not be permitted entry into the event.
You may order wines, spirits, and other goods such as tickets to events including wine tastings and dinner events via any of the methods mentioned below. You have a right to cancel orders, with the exception of special orders and requests. OUR CONTRACT WITH YOU
Your order is an application to purchase products or services from us. There shall be no contract of any kind between you and Wide World of Wines until and if we accept said order and, in the case of products to be delivered to you, when we actually send said products to you. At any point up until then, Wide World of Wines may decline to supply any goods or services to you without providing reason and without prior notice. At the time we accept your order or in the case of delivery of products, when said products are sent, a contract is made between you and Wide World of Wines.
On acceptance of your order for a reservation at any of our paid events, we will notify you via e-mail and/or telephone. You may be requested to show identification upon arrival at said event to verify the reservation. We request that you not bring children or pets as you may not be admitted if you do so. Please note that any attendee of any event that is annexed to Wide World of Wines must be 21 years of age or older. Please also note that any attendee may be subject to search and/or rejection or refusal of entry to the event if we believe, with good reason, that any attendee is acting unlawfully. Any person who is intoxicated will be refused entry to the event, refused service, and/or be asked to leave the premises. If in any instance you are refused entry, service or asked to leave an event for any reason, a refund will not be permitted. No refunds shall be given for absenteeism.
If we are unable to accept or fulfill your order, we shall inform you in regards and will not charge you for products and/or services. This can be due, but not limited to, certain products being out of stock, events being at capacity, your payment details being incorrect or out of date, insufficient funds to cover the order, discovering a discrepancy in the price or description of the product(s), or because we are unable to meet a delivery deadline you have requested.
DESCRIPTIONS & PRICES
The description(s) and prices payable for the products or services that you order are set out in our price list, e-mail, brochure, and/or website. If, in error, we have under-priced a product or service, we will not be liable to provide said item or service to you at the stated price provided that we notify you before our acceptance of your order by receiving payment, or, in the instance of delivery, before shipping products. We retain the right to cancel your order provided we refund any payments you have made. You may agree to pay the correct price in which case we will proceed with your order. In the event that you have been overcharged for an item, a full refund of the difference will be given via the original method of payment. If the original purchase was made using cash, a check will be made out to the original purchaser.
We reserve the right to change our prices at any time without prior notification. Please refer to our website for all current prices. Please note prices within our internal price list and inventory system supersede any prices issued in the latest publication, on our website, or any prices set out in these terms and conditions if they are different.
Unless otherwise stated, prices listed for wines are quoted per bottle and per case, respectively. Please note that all prices listed are exclusive of sales tax, shipping, packing and any other fees that may be associated with your order. Any price quotes placed via any form of communication are not set until the sale is accepted by Wide World of Wines and deemed to be resolute and final.
Prices are subject to fluctuations based on the current market, currency, score, professional reviews, availability, demand, and stock remaining unsold. Prices shown on wine by the case reflect the discount available and inherent when wines are bought by the unmixed case. If any other currency is stated, it is subject to currency fluctuations and is an indication only. All prices advertised in any offers, e-mails, publications, or items in store are in US Dollars (USD). All payments are to be made in United States Dollars (USD). If paying with any other currency, it falls upon the purchaser to pay any currency exchange fees or transactional fees that may apply to their order. Likewise, if paying by wire order, money order, certified check, etc, it falls upon the purchaser to pay any transactional fees applied to those services as well.
DELIVERY & SHIPPING
Please note that Wide World of Wines does not ship alcoholic products and only does so as a proxy on behalf of the purchaser and/or consumer of said products. For more information please refer to our "Shipping & Payment Info" page.
Wide World of Wines is not responsible for acts or omissions by itself or others in packing or shipping, whether or not the carrier or packer is recommended by Wide World of Wines. Packing and handling of purchased items are entirely at the risk of the customer. Wide World of Wines may, at the request and direction of the customer and for an administrative fee, make arrangements for the consolidated shipment by common carrier of the purchased products, provided that Wide World of Wines is not liable in any way. Please note that although we will try our best to accommodate your schedule, we cannot guarantee any specific delivery date or time window either through us or via third party shippers.
Local Deliveries
Orders of $1,000 or more (per delivery address) are delivered throughout the immediate DC metropolitan area free of charge for Local Deliveries ad defined within our Local Deliveries shipping services per our delivery options on our website. We normally deliver between 11 AM and 4 PM Tuesday to Friday within 10 working days from receipt of order. We offer a delivery service for orders of less than $1,000 (excluding delivery charge and/or purchases of event tickets, gift certificates, and wines bought as future arrivals or in bond); this is chargeable at $20 per delivery address, for up to 5 standard cases, for Local Deliveries as defined by our delivery options on our website. Tickets for events are delivered via e-mail free of charge.
Collection
If you designate at the time of placing your order, you may collect purchased in-stock items from our store and warehouse located at 2201 Wisconsin Ave NW Washington, DC 20007. Your order will be available for collection for 30 days from the date on which your order is accepted, after which it will be returned and your account will be refunded less any fees incurred in processing your order e.g. credit card processing fees. Please allow up to 45 days for funds to be refunded. Products returned to Wide World of Wines are subject to a 10% restocking fee.
Delivery & Shipping Restrictions
Prospective or current customers should be notified that various jurisdictions impose limitations on the quantity of alcoholic beverage products which may be purchased and brought into their jurisdiction from another jurisdiction without requiring the purchaser or shipper to possess certain licenses or permits. Wide World of Wines shall not as a condition of sale assume any obligation or bear any responsibility whatsoever for applying for or obtaining the appropriate permits or licenses in the event the quantity purchased exceeds said limitations. Therefore, all prospective or current customers are strongly advised to perform due diligence in regards to any such limitations and to determine the manner in which alcoholic beverages shall be brought into the jurisdiction so as to comply with all local legal requirements.
Shipment of Spirits
Prospective or current customers should also be advised there are certain restrictions regarding the shipment of spirits. Many countries and states impose limitations on quantity, high duties, and/or taxes, and prospective or current should be aware of export and import restrictions.
Receipt of Goods
Deliveries & shipments should be inspected to ensure the products arrived in a satisfactory condition as soon as possible. Any customer should please notify us immediately of breakages or wine shortages in the transit and delivery process. We are unable to guarantee credit or replacements unless we are notified within 14 days of delivery of the order and are able to confirm any shortages or breakages within 48 hours of delivery. Please note that for some rare and older items, replacement may not be possible. Please also be notified, that though the circumstances are rare, multi-case orders can become separated. If you do not receive the balance of your order within 3 working days of the first delivery please contact us in regards. Local Deliveries should always arrive within 10 working days of the date of order unless otherwise designated by Wide World of Wines e.g. Future Arrival products or upon customer request. If you, or a party 21 years of age or older that you designate and notify us, will not be at the delivery address at the time of delivery and wish us to leave your order in a safe place, please advise us. We regret that neither we nor our carriers can accept responsibility for any subsequent loss or damage which occurs once parcels has been left. PRODUCT POLICIES
Quality Guarantee Policy
We are committed to providing our customers with an unsurpassed level of customer service and are equally committed to ensuring we provide a safe, legal, and desirable product to all of our clients. If a wine is corked or faulty we will offer a replacement or credit on the return of the bottle in question after receiving manager and/or owner approval. Many wines are sold to drink young so, upon written request, we can offer a simple drinking window to help clarify the optimum drinking time of our wines. If a wine has been kept too long or stored inappropriately, we may not be able to offer a refund. If you believe a wine to be faulty please contact us via telephone at (202) 333-7500 or email us at info@wideworldofwines.com and we will be happy to make arrangements to have the wine in question tested.
Substitutes & Availability
All wines, spirits, and other goods are subject to availability. When selecting wines or other goods from our e-mail, website, and other forms of offers, we attempt our best to ensure that they will remain available throughout the entirety of the sale. However, some products will inevitably go out of stock. We, therefore, reserve the right to select and deliver you a substitute (of equal or higher value) for the wine you have ordered in order to avoid delay in the delivery of your order and other clients orders. If we are unable to supply a particular product, or cannot supply a substitute, we will not be liable to you except to ensure that you are not charged for said product.
Ownership of Products
All wines, spirits, and other products ordered by you remain the property of Wide World of Wines or its associated parties until payment is received in full and said goods are released to the purchaser or third party carrier. The ownership of goods shall not pass to the purchaser until we have received payment in full (in cash or cleared funds) for said goods in addition to any other goods or services we have supplied to you where payment has been due.
Goods become the purchaser's responsibility from the time said goods are picked up, delivered to the address you provided, or entrusted with a third party carrier selected by you to be transited to you or a party you designate.
Returns or Exchanging of Gifts
We are only able to accept returned gifts and organize refunds when desired by the purchaser with a receipt or evidence of sale. Said gift(s) must be returned in person to our store in order for us to confirm and process the return. We are unable to exchange gifts for the recipient of the gift, with the sole exception of quality control. We are unable to offer any type of funds to the recipient of the gift who wishes to return an item, but will exchange for other goods of equal or lesser value. Wine Tasting, Dinners, and Other Events
In the event of cancellation by a customer, full refunds will only be given if we are notified at least 15 days before the date of the event. Refunds will only be given after this time if we are able to find other customers to fill your reservation.
All attendees of any event at, annexed, or in association with, Wide World of Wines must be 21 years of age or older. In order to comply with US and local laws, attendees may be asked to produce photographic identification displaying proof of age.
Return of Products/Cancellation Policy

Your Right to Terminate Your Contract With Us
You can end your contract with us by cancelling your order (see above and on our Return Policy page for more details), if the product you have bought is faulty (see Quality Guarantee Policy above and our Return Policy page) in which case you may be due a refund, or because of something we have done or informed you which we are going to do in writing. This could be that we informed you about an upcoming change to these terms or any specific terms governing your purchase, which you do not agree to or if we have told you about an error in the price, vintage, or description of the goods you have ordered and you do not wish to proceed with the sale. Please see our Return Policy page and read above for further details of how to cancel your order.
BROKING, CONSIGNMENT, AND CELLAR SERVICES
On occasion, and at our sole discretion, we are prepared to offer wine brokerage services where we will seek third-party buyers for your wine and/or spirits. If we agree to sell your wine on your behalf to a third party we will purchase your wine and/or spirits from you and then sell it on to the third party. Our purchase from you will be conditional upon the third party purchasing and completing the purchase of the wine and/or spirits from Wide World of Wines.
In agreeing to Wide World of Wines' broking terms, you are authorizing and granting Wide World of Wines to have a 90 day exclusivity period to offer the wine for general sale from the date of first contact and a further 90 days after the wine is in our physical possession. We will agree a price that we will pay you for the wine, whether it be a solid number or a percentage of the current market value of the collection. If we sell the wine to a third party within the exclusivity period, then our purchase from you will be deemed to have occurred immediately before our sale and the sum agreed payable to you will be paid within 45 working days of the receipt by us of the proceeds of our sale to the third party. If the wine has not been sold within the exclusivity period, Wide World of Wines will contact you to discuss a renewal of the period, a price adjustment, the return of the wine to you or storage of the wine, the latter two of which may have additional fees.
The purchase and resale of your wines is conditional on their safe receipt (at your expense) to Wide World of Wines' premises and that the condition of the wines is, in the opinion of Wide World of Wines and the any purchasing third parties, as agreed and suitable for resale. Typically, if you are offering wines for broking from outside of Wide World of Wines' storage facility then the wines must be either in the original wooden case (OWC), carton (OCB) and/or in good condition (please inquire in regards to inspection guidlines via telephone or via e-mail at info@wideworldofwines.com). We may introduce additional terms and conditions in relation to the brokerage service which will be advised to you at the time.
If the purchaser cancels the sale contract (where they are permitted by law to do so), Wide World of Wines retains the right to cancel the contract for the purchase of the wine from you, by written notice to you (including by email). If payment is withheld by the purchaser and products are to be returned, either by the purchaser or at your request prior to the sale, or where the wines cannot be sold or the contract is cancelled, transportation of the product to you will be at your expense.
Wide World of Wines also offers consignment services at the same terms as our broking services with the exception that the wines remain under Wide World of Wines control for the entirety of the consignment period to be agreed upon before any wines are to be received into Wide World of Wines' storage facility.
Wide World of Wines also offers other cellar services including inventory, assessment, packing, evaluation and other professional wine services at $75/hr plus expenses. If deciding to broker or consign your collection, these fees may be waived (at the sole discretion of Wide World of Wines) or can be taken out of proceeds from sales, if agreed upon by both the seller/consignor and Wide World of Wines.

LEGAL INFORMATION
Verification Checks
To ensure that your credit or debit card is not being used without your consent, we may validate name, address and other personal information supplied by you during the order process against appropriate third party databases (please see the Shipping and Payment Info page for more details). By accepting these terms and conditions you consent to such checks being made. In performing these checks personal information provided by you may be disclosed to a registered Credit Reference Agency which may keep a record of that information. Please rest assured that this is done only to confirm your identity, that a credit check is performed and that your credit rating will be unaffected. All information provided by you will be treated securely and strictly in accordance with the Unites States Privacy Act of 1974.
All information revealed through such checks shall be used by us in accordance with our privacy policy although we may refer any information which appears to be fraudulent or unlawful to relevant third parties such as police or other enforcement authorities, banks or credit card companies as deemed appropriate by us.
Change of Address
It is the responsibility of Customers to notify us promptly of any change in their contact details including e-mail address, telephone number, or shipping address.
Non-Payment of Storage
Please note that all storage charges are payable annually in advance. In the event of non-payment, within 30 days from the renewal date of storage dues or at our sole discretion at the end of our debt collection process, we reserve the right to recover all sums due from the customer by either a) selling at our discretion some or all of the customer’s wines and spirits and to deduct from the proceeds of sale all outstanding sums due and any costs incurred in connection with the sale or b) take back and incorporate as our stock some or all of the customer’s wines and spirits and to credit against the sums due from the customer what we reasonably believe to be the current market value of the wines taken back less 30%. In either case the customer hereby authorizes us to sell its wines as its agent and agree that ownership of the wine will transfer to the purchaser or to us as the case may be. Wide World of Wines shall not be held responsible or liable for any difference in the proceeds of sale or allocated value had the wine been sold through a third party or valued by a third party. Where we sell the wine for more than the sum due from the customer, the balance of the proceeds of the sale will be retained and credited to the customer’s account and may be utilized to settle any other amounts due to us from the customer and any surplus refunded to the customer pending receipt of the customer’s written request for payment. Should the proceeds of sale not cover the amount due from the customer we reserve the right to recover the balance from the customer.
If we exercise our right to sell any wines held in the customer’s storage area as referenced above, the customer authorizes us to do so on the customer’s behalf. We reserve the right to select the customer’s wines to be listed for sale from the customer’s inventory with us and an administrative listing fee of $50 will also be charged. In order not to affect the value of the customer’s wines we will only list wines that are in good condition, suitable for sale, and that will be easily sold. This could mean we are listing wines in excess of the value of the outstanding debt. The customer’s selected wines will be listed at prices based on the www.wine-searcher.com pro price for that day. Where no www.wine-searcher.com pro price is available we will be entitled to list your wines at the estimated market rate, at our sole discretion. You will be informed of the listing price by email or post. As we will be listing wines on the customer’s behalf, we reserve the right to accept any reasonable offer made for your wines. We will ensure that only the best market rate offers on your wine placed are accepted. However, Wide World of Wines cannot be held liable for any market variation should the customer’s wines be sold at less than the original value or the price paid by the customer for the wines, nor for less than desirable conditions if no property remains that is of an acceptable and salable condition.
Third Party Beneficiaries
Irrespective of whether the wines in your storage have been bought for a third party or ownership is actually or beneficially transferred to that third party (whether related to you or not) and whether or not we have been informed of this, you, and only you, shall be our client in respect of your storage and shall be solely responsible for all payments and for providing all instructions in relation to storage. You hereby agree to indemnify Wide World of Wines against all and any liability, losses, expenses and costs arising from any claim of whatever nature made by such third parties and incurred by us in exercising our right of sale or disposal, or refusing to act upon such third parties’ instructions or otherwise.
Indemnity
Any entity conducting business with Wide World of Wines agrees to indemnify, defend and hold Wide World of Wines harmless from any and all demands, claims, suits, judgments, or other liability (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses incurred by Wide World of Wines in connection therewith) arising by reason of client's breach of this contract or at client's failure to pay any applicable taxes. This indemnification shall survive the termination of this contract.
Insurance coverage on shipping products does not cover confiscation by any government or law enforcement agency that may occur as a result of alleged violations of applicable laws by any party associated with Wide World of Wines.
To the extent authorized by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold Wide World of Wines, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and associates, harmless against any and all claims, demands, damages, losses, liabilities and costs, including without limitation to reasonable legal, expert and accounting fees, incurred by Wide World of Wines in connect with any claims, actions or demands alleging or resulting from your use of the contents of the website, conducting of any and all business with Wide World of Wines, your direct or indirect breach of these Terms & Conditions, and/or your violation of law or of the rights of any third party.
Limitation of Liability
Wide World of Wines is not liable for any loss of condition or decline in market value due to, but not limited to, natural processes, ullage, being cellared too long, improper storage conditions, winemaker faults, or natural faults e.g. corked wines, pre-oxidation wines. Wines with assessment notes are sold on an as-is basis and cannot be returned. We attempt to do our best to notify our consumers as to when products should be consumed and if there is an inherent risk of a product being flawed or faulty, therefore if you happen to have any questions or are seeking advice on products you wish to purchase or have purchased with us, please feel free to contact us via telephone at (202) 333-7500 or via e-mail at info@wideworldofwines.com in regards. As wines can be a delicate product, they may suffer in time from ullage/low levels, off colors, depressed or protruding corks, as well as several other issues in relation to contents or structure of the bottle, container, or its enclosures. If defined at the time of sale or returned with these conditions and not stored at any facility owned by Wide World of Wines, these products and are held at customers’ own risk.
Other Services, Special Offers, Etc
From time to time Wide World of Wines may offer other services, special offers, discounts, promotions, etc together with services not specifically referred to in these terms and conditions. Such matters shall be subject, in addition to these terms and conditions, to other specific terms and conditions. By accepting services, special offers, discounts, or promotions you agree to be bound by such additional terms and conditions.
Applicable Law
These terms and conditions are subject to the laws of the District of Columbia. We will attempt to solve any disagreements quickly, efficiently, and to a mutually satisfactory resolution. If you are not happy with the way we process any disagreement and you wish to take court proceedings, you must do so in the United States courts within the confines of the District of Columbia.
Nothing in these terms and conditions limits or excludes your statutory rights as a consumer. These terms and conditions are subject to amendment at any time without prior notice – please refer to our website www.wideworldofwines.com for the latest version or contact us via e-mail at info@wideworldofwines.com.
